Previously there were a few different ways in which you could deal with a lost tooth. One of the most common ways to do this was to get removable dentures put in. Now the thing about dentures back then was that they were exceptionally cheap, painless to use, and very easily available. Unfortunately they also came in a few sizes and were often too big or too small for most people, they stood out as clearly fake teeth, and they could not be used for much other than giving a visual appeal of the teeth being there and somewhat helping in speech. Even speaking with them, your speech would fumble quite a bit because the teeth would usually slip out of place.
Dentures today are quite different from back then. They have improved on the design and functionality of the dentures. Now the teeth are made to look a lot more real than they ever did before. The dentures are a little pricier but they do not cost what other more elaborate medical procedures cost, and they are still painless and easily available. However, now they fit your mouth properly and can be made out of a mouth mold to fit perfectly and exactly, this means that they will not slip out through the day and they will also not get in the way of your speech. The material used to make the dentures have also gotten better, the dentures no longer look like they are out of place, and instead they look like your teeth in your mouth. There are still some issues with dentures nowadays though. They still do not compare to tooth and dental implants put in directly connected to the jaw bone. The implants have better functionality too. You can find more information on all of this online.
